Why choose Maison Midi?

At Maison Teranga, we love the challenge of transforming a space so it reaches its full potential. Creativity, passion, and professionalism are at the heart of what we do but just as important is our commitment to eco-conscious, sustainable practices. Often we look at things from a different perspective and achieve great results! We love incorporating thoughtfully curated vintage pieces, repurposing and upcycling furniture and accessories, using natural, non-toxic materials whenever possible and always aim to minimise waste. The result? Fresh, timeless Mediterranean interiors with a Provençal twist – elegant, effortless and always contemporary.

Meet the team

Brian & Elena Kinane have been expatriates their entire adult lives, living in the UK, Ireland, Germany and the UAE before moving to the south of France. Wherever they went, they bought, renovated and sold properties, until they finally fell in love with Provence and decided to buy their “forever” house — Maison Midi.

Suzanne O’Neill has lived in the South of France for more than half her life. Originally from London, she chose the French way of life after studying there and learning the language at a young age. Discovering her passion for old French properties she and her partner

The properties they owned over the years were all very different, and with each one they worked hard to maximise its potential. Over time, they learned how to highlight a home’s best features while finding practical and creative solutions for the problem areas. Optimising layouts, choosing the right furniture and colour schemes, and doing so in an eco-friendly and thrifty way became something they were very good at.

Eventually, friends and family began asking for their help too, whether staging homes before they went up for sale or assisting with interiors. Together with their friend Suzanne O’Neil, the idea of Maison Midi slowly began to take shape.

Their move to the south of France was fuelled by a desire to live closer to nature and take their already eco-friendly lifestyle to another level. When renovating Maison Midi, they wanted to use reclaimed and non-toxic materials and paints wherever possible. Reusing and repurposing brocante finds became a labour of love, and learning to work with limewash, milk paint and natural wax was a revelation.

After decades in the artificial world of Dubai, Brian and Elena longed for a more traditional, slower-paced life. Travel had always been part of their lives before they had children, but after exploring much of southern Europe they realised that the Mediterranean lifestyle was the one they identified with most, and they fell for “their” corner of Provence.

Their love of the late 19th and early 20th-century artists who found inspiration around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, including Paul Signac, Maximilien Luce, Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet, first brought them to this particular spot. The magical light, the natural beauty of the countryside, and the contrast between the Massif des Maures and the Côte d’Azur captivated them, just as they had captivated painters more than 100 years earlier.

Today, the colours and charm of traditional Provençal architecture, together with the joie de vivre of the Côte d’Azur, influence everything they do. A clean, eco-friendly, eclectic bohemian style, with a fresh take on Provençal living, has become their signature.

Discovering her passion for old French properties, she and her partner started with the renovation of their farmhouse in the South-West, moving on to converting an old wine cellar before eventually gravitating to the Golf of St Tropez to manage an award-winning vineyard and its Bastide and Mas, where they lived for 14 years with their two children. It was here that she gained valuable experience in both managing two large luxury rental properties and also handling medium scale building projects and renovations for a luxury clientele. With her thirst for adventure and eye for detail, she loves nothing more than spending Sunday mornings at local Brocante markets, up-cycling old furniture pieces and reimagining dated interiors with fresh colour palettes, adding subtle touches of understated French chic.
